History and Culture
Ard Ri House hotel on the Miltown road, Tuam, Co. Galway
If you like to mix a little culture, history and architecture with the days activities, you can do so by availing of a fine project "Architectural walking tours " as produced by Galway East tourism.
Some of the finest ecclesiastical and architectural land marks in Ireland are to be found in Galway East, including Ross Errilly Friary, Kilmacduagh and Clonfert Cathedral, and these tours are self guided and comprise a brochure with illustrated map, (available from the ARD RÍ HOUSE hotel) and an audio narrative available for free download from Galway East website. www.galwayeast.com
Ecclestical driving trails offer a unique opportunity to view a wider range of what East Galway has to offer in terms of its rich, ecclesiastical heritage, and over two days will provide an interesting insight into 23 of the regions oldest, best preserved and most famous religious sites. As well as being available for free download on the web, the audio narrative which accompanies these driving tours will be printed on cd; and thus can be listened to on the tour. Each site is mapped and its co- ordinates logged ., and reproduced in brochure form and on the web, thus allowing any driver with Sat-Nav, to enter co- ordinates and get accurate directions.
